The City splits drug coverage into layers: the regular card for most medicines; the PICA card (Express Scripts) for two medication categories — self-injectable medications, and chemotherapy and certain related medications (per the NYC OLR PICA program description, July 2026; the list is non-exhaustive and doesn't itself set your cost); and your union fund's help on top. i What's an EOB, and why don't I need one?
An EOB — "Explanation of Benefits" — is the letter your plan mails after a visit. It says "THIS IS NOT A BILL" at the top, so most people toss it. It actually shows what the plan paid and what you owe, which is how you'd normally track your progress by hand. You don't need to keep them: connecting your account (or snapping one photo) does the same job automatically.
